11 Tips for Visiting Provence Lavender Fields
Here are some tips if you are hoping to visit the lavender fields in Provence next European summer.
Who knows, you might get to see them with Amica Vina next year!
1. Go mid-June to mid-July:
Thatโs peak bloom! Any later and the fields might already be harvested. Especially due to climate change, there aren't exact dates; each year differs.
2. For fields upon fields:
Valensole is iconic, but check out Sault too: Less touristy, just as gorgeous. These fields usually are near sunflower fields as well. ๐ป
3. For ease of a one-stop shop:
Visit Terre Ugo near Aix-en-Provence or Sรฉnanque Abbey near Gordes.
4. Wear comfy shoes:
The fields arenโt paved, so ditch the heels and bring sandals or flats you can walk in.
5. Watch out for burs & thistles:
Those clingy little guys love long skirts and socks. Stick to the paths to avoid them, and also to respect the rows.
6. Bring water, sunscreen, and maybe even a fan:
The sun in Provence does not play, even if youโre just out to take pics. ๐ชญ
7. Golden hour is chefโs kiss:
Soft light + fewer crowds = dreamy photos. Sunrise or sunset - but since the sun sets late, you're likely enjoying wine by then!
8. Try the lavender ice cream:
When in Provence ๐ฆ
9. Bugs also love lavender:
Lavender = bees. They're friendly, but maybe skip strong perfumes and stay calm ๐
10. Buy direct from farmers:
The essential oils, soaps, and sachets are next-level quality. You're supporting small farms and taking a piece of Provence home with you ๐
11. Instagram vs Reality:
Most fields aren't like what you see in the photos. The lavender is beautiful, but not as vibrant as Instagram may lead you to believe - especially if you miss the peak of the growing season. ๐ธ
